The World of Mobile Gaming
There are millions and millions of mobile phones in active use today. The uses of the mobile phone are many and varied. Of course, the primary use is communicating with one another. Even so, these appliances serve many diverse uses. Of these one of the most popular is the use of the mobile as a gaming platform. The capabilities of the mobile phones of today allow the mobile phone users access to an impressively diverse number of various games from puzzles and gambling to adventure games. The net income from these mobile games is one of the most rapidly growing markets and is supposed to have topped 4 billion dollars in revenues in 2007.
Different People Different Mobile Gaming Trends
Apparently, although everyone is playing mobile games, the diversity among the players is quite great. Statistical analysis has yielded the following data: First off, as might be expected, teens are the age group that dominates the gaming industry. Teens are some three times more likely to play games on their mobiles than older adults (or, at least three times more likely to admit that they play). In addition, in most mobile gaming categories it is the women who play more than men. This is particularly true for puzzle games. It seems that women play puzzle games more than twice as much as men. In fact, it is estimated that some 65% of the mobile games market is thanks to women. There is one gaming category which seems to appeal to men more and that is the category of the action and adventure games (not surprising!). Even in this category, the men only hold 60% of the market. It might seem strange that women who are not usually perceived as hard core gamers actually dominate this realm of gaming. It is speculated that the reason for this phenomenon is that the casual nature of mobile gaming has a particular appeal for women. It is also possible that men simply find other avenues for their gaming tendencies. Of course, one can also always speculate on precisely how these statistics were elicited…
